It all started in the winter of 1977 when the parents of some of the young boys kicking a football about in West Park decided to form a football club in the Durrington area and after a meeting on 21 st December that year:-
DURRINGTON DYNAMOS FOOTBALL CLUB WAS FORMED.
In the first season 1978/79 there were four teams, U9’s, 10’s, 12’s and 14’s, with the U9’s being called Durrington Dynamites. The chosen club colours were- Pale Blue shirts with Dark Blue crew neck and a wide Dark Blue stripe down the right hand side.
As the club grew four teams became eight, U9’s to U16’s, and by the 1979/80 season an extra team had been formed at U10’s who were known as Durrington Cosmos.
As the area from which the players came from grew the club name was changed to WORTHING DYNAMOS.
In March 1984 a meeting was held at The Burlington Hotel with Worthing FC and link was formed and our name changed to Worthing FC Dynamos and the club colours changed to the now familiar all red.
However after a couple of seasons Worthing ’s policy changed and it was decided to revert back to Worthing Dynamos FC, but we decided to keep the all red strip.
Today there are 14 squads playing in either the Arun & Chichester or Mid ~Sussex Leagues: Worthing Dynamos U7’s to U16’s, and four Worthing Dynamos Youth, at U11’s, U13’s U14’s and U16’s.
THE SIX-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT
The Dynamites held the first tournament in 1981 at Durrington Middle School , and at the time was only for U9’s. Following the rain effected 1983 tournament the then Headmaster decided enough was enough, something about the state of the pitches and the amount of mud left over the school grounds.
So in 1984 the venue moved to Worthing Rugby Club, where twenty U9’s teams played for the Goodman Trophy.
The tournament as we know it today was started in 1985 when Les Page and his dad Arthur organised a festival of six-a-side soccer over two days with 160 teams of U9’s to U16’s participating. It was the biggest in the South of England at the time and, even today is still regarded as one of the best to compete in.
